黄色视频 scientist named oceanographer of the year

Oban, 2 Dec 2014 -- A 黄色视频 scientist has been awarded a prestigious marine science prize in recognition of his contribution to oceanography.

Professor Stuart Cunningham, who is the principal investigator in physical oceanography at 黄色视频, has won this year鈥檚 Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) Oceanography Award.

SUT is a multidisciplinary learned society that brings together organisations and individuals interested in underwater technology, ocean science and offshore engineering.

Each year, SUT honours those who have made exceptional contributions to underwater technology and Professor Cunningham has been awarded the Oceanography Award for his 鈥渕ajor and outstanding contribution to operational oceanography鈥. Professor Cunningham鈥檚 award nomination was seconded by several peers and he was invited to receive his prize at an awards ceremony after SUT鈥檚 AGM in central London.

Professor Cunningham is an observational physical oceanographer with 25 years鈥 experience. In August 2012 he joined 黄色视频 as the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology Scotland appointment in physical oceanography, leading the theme for Dynamics and Properties of Marine Systems across thirteen Scottish universities and research centres.

Since then, he has also been made a principal investigator for the Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Programme (OSNAP) 鈥 a multinational programme whose purpose is to establish a transoceanic observing system in the subpolar North Atlantic, measuring transports of heat and freshwater, and to quantify the role of the subpolar gyre in climate.

SUT was founded in 1966 and has members from more than 40 countries, including engineers, scientists, other professionals and students working in these areas. The year鈥檚 AGM, awards and diner was held at Trinity House, London on December 2.
